The Truth Shall Set You Free
John 8: 12, 32, 36
– Then spake Jesus again
unto them saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the
light of life. 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Dear Friends – No matter what you may be facing or how dark your
circumstances appear to be, you can have the Light of life, you can be free. So often in life we allow
ourselves to be deceived and get sidetracked. This can be a deception by others, a truth that isn’t
forthcoming, or this can be a truth about ourselves we have not wanted to admit or deal with. Or this can be a
lie from the enemy of our souls for we know he comes only to steal, kill and destroy.
It is said that great
people are made or broken in the mind so when problems arise that seem "out of the ordinary", or when we are
faced with situations for which we can find no resolve, perhaps it is time to take a step back and seek God's
truth in the matter before the hole gets any deeper. Have we slipped over into self righteousness,
unforgiveness, and strife? Have the actions of another caused bitterness to take root in our spirit, sending us
down a pathway we think we would have never chosen for ourselves? Whatever the case may be, getting to the
bottom of things, rooting out the issue, is freeing and refreshing. Scripture says in Proverbs
8:11 - For wisdom is better than rubies; and all things that may be desired are not to be compared
to it. Yes, I would rather seek God's wisdom, God's truth, God's direction in a matter than fumble my way
through an issue when my way doesn't seem to be working.
In the spiritual journey
with all of its twists and turns we must remain honest before God. After all, scripture says in
Hebrews 4:12 – For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any
two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is
a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. So there we have it. We may stand before Him broken,
reeling from painful circumstances and disastrous outcomes, but if we want to learn and grow from such we must
seek the truth, His truth, for only in knowing the truth shall we be able to truly arise from the pits of
despair, gaze into His beautiful face, take hold His hand and move on.
Beloved, when you find you
are overcome by a situation and don’t know what to do, which way to turn, often times even where it all went
wrong, God is still with you, still nudging you forward, still as much in your situation as He ever was. He is not deterred by our failures and shortcomings, our confusion
and brokenness. Rather He stands ready to assist, to heal, and to
bring His good out of an otherwise bleak-looking circumstance. But as you come to Him for help, for discernment,
let your heart be ready for His truth.
The truth of God is always
a great first step on the road to recovery and healing. It doesn’t matter how far down you feel, how lost, how
alone, in your darkest hour you can invite the Light of the world into your heart. You can have this Light of
life by simply believing and receiving. Scripture says there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are
in Christ Jesus so guilt must not hold you back. When your heart is truly searching for truth then God truly
wants to reveal it to you. Yes, we don’t have all the answers for life, but the answers He knows we need to move
on and grow in our relationship with Him are there. If we search for Him and His truths we will find Him
when we search for Him with all of our hearts.
There are times we find
ourselves in a pit of darkness and despair with no sense of how we ended up there. Did we take a wrong turn
somewhere? Did we make a critical mistake in judgment along the way without our knowledge of such? Or do we just
need to be shown God’s truth about the situation? As time goes on we can analyze and reason and try with all we
have to discover what’s wrong. Sometimes the truth still eludes us and we just can’t find that peaceful place
again. It is when we find ourselves isolated and doubting that we must humble ourselves and seek a truth that
perhaps we might be missing. Obviously if a situation is persistent and your heart continues to be restless, you
continue to sense that something just seems to be amiss, perhaps your heart is right. Perhaps you need to back
up to the place where you first noticed the issues going awry, go back to the beginning as you are aware of it,
then ask God to show you His truth in this matter.
And don’t be afraid of
truth. Truth shows you what you need to do. Truth shows you the state of your heart. That is why excuses about
our own lives, excuses like 'it’s all their fault and not mine ', or 'if they hadn’t done such and
such I would not have ended up like this ' are usually unproductive. While there may be some rationale to
these feelings, excuses are not needed and just don't fly with God. Yes, many times our tragic
circumstances are the result of someone else’s actions. The heart of the matter is when we truly want to walk in
the Light but we feel hindered in some way, or when we desire for our life to be an open book before the Lord
but something seems out of sorts, then asking God to intervene on our behalf and show us where the schism is can
only be a beautiful new lease on life. For whatever He might show us, He’ll be there to help us recover, help us
to understand our responsibility in a matter. He'll be there to guide us and get our lives back on track. Yes,
His truth can only lead us to the destiny for which He has called us, if we accept it, for His destiny for us is
NOT the pit.
His truth sets us free
because He is able to discern the very thoughts and intents of our hearts, and when we are aware of this, our
excuses must fall by the wayside. After all, we want to get to the heart of a matter don’t we? We are ready and
willing to allow Him to forgive us, cleanse us, shower us with mercy and grace, and continue to allow him to
lead us in His way, are we not? If our struggle is with unforgiveness, the sooner we admit it and release it to
God the sooner we shall find rest for our own souls. Nothing chokes the Spirit out of our lives as much as
unforgiveness because it keeps us from that deep and abiding fellowship with God. If we want the flow of
the Spirit and the Love of God to be a continual flow in us and through us, forgiveness is key, the "square one"
to a prosperous and healthy relationship with Christ. No excuse we can make will ever be weighty enough to
handle the baggage of unforgiveness - we must let it go.
Dear ones, if you have
something in your life that continues to trouble you, perhaps the Holy Spirit is dealing with you about issues
that need to be resolved. It is most difficult to continue a Love walk when something is out of sync. We can’t
hide bad attitudes, unforgiveness, strife, sin of any kind, ungratefulness, anything that hinders us, for it
also hinders our relationship with Christ. Why not give it to Him today? Why not ask Him to reveal His truth to
you and be free, truly free? Stand believing that He’s working things out for you. Be patient and let God bring
you into that peaceful place about a situation. Believe that as you strive for the truth that God is standing
with you, teaching you, admonishing you, and strengthening you. And standing firm on your greatest
faith, believing that He will do as He promised simply because you have asked will be ultimately
greatly rewarded in your outward experiences as well. Do your best, stand firm in the faith, then as you
let it go you will see that the battle is no longer yours, it's the Lords.
May the Light of life lead
you through a beautiful day and a beautiful life. May all the Love He so longs to reveal in you flow unhindered
to all those around you for scripture says “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart
of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him” (1 Corinthians
2:9). Seek His truth about yourself, your life, your relationships and circumstances. Seek
His truth in any and all situations knowing God is well able to deliver you, comfort you, establish you and
bless you exceeding abundantly above all that you could have ever dared asked for. Don’t settle for living a sad
and depressed life because you think it’s too hard to overcome, too hard to accept, or too hard for God, just
ask. He’s only a prayer away, waiting with open arms and ready to show you all He has prepared for you because
you love Him. Be encouraged, be inspired, let hope reign in your spirit, and above all live free in the
truth.
May God truly bless you
this day and every day.
