Believe in Yourself

Against All Odds

Psalms139: 5, 14, 17, 18 - Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. 14 I will praise thee for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them.18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

Dear Friends - Do you believe in yourself? Do you believe in your abilities to succeed? Do you believe that no matter how dark or hopeless your situation may seem, if you are trusting God and standing in faith in His Son Jesus, even though it may seem to be against all odds, you will be brought out to be better than you ever imagined?

So often in life we allow the thoughts of others, their opinions of our lives and actions to have rule and reign in our lives rather than taking hold of what God has to say about us and letting every seed God has so lovingly planted in every heart take root and blossom. If we are trusting God with our lives, if Jesus is our Savior, our Helper, our Deliverer, and our Healer, what others think is unimportant. Our focus must remain on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. He is well able when we are not.

Scripture says as a man thinketh in his heart so is he. It doesn’t say we are what others think we are. It doesn’t say what others think of us or what others speak of us shall in anywise dictate the course of our lives. Yes, others’ thoughts of us have an impact, positive or negative, as determined by what we allow. People’s opinions often matter more than they should. As humans we seem to need the approval and acceptance of those around us, at times sacrificing even our better judgment or integrity to “fit in”, to feel a part of something rather than stand and be counted for exactly who we are and what we stand for.

As soon as we begin to focus on the opinions of others we begin to lose sight of all that God has created us to be. Each one of us has unique gifts and callings. Individually and singularly God has deposited a destiny inside of us that can only be reached if we believe it and receive it. Yes, to rise up and take hold of all the great and precious promises of God in spite of what others think or say, to believe in ourselves no matter what circumstances may be dictating, this is the mark of a true child of God.

Truly we are fearfully and wonderfully made. He created us and His works are "marvelous” that includes me that includes you. If we are acquainted with such a loving Savior, surely our very soul has a “knowing”, a deep and abiding sense that God made us just as we are for a very Divinely-inspired purpose. He has blessed us and knows us better than we know ourselves, and His thoughts of us cannot be numbered, yet each thought is full of life exceeding abundantly above all we could think or imagine. Meditate on that for a moment. We may feel unworthy, useless, inferior, insignificant, but these are feelings only, not facts. We may feel lost, lonely, broken and hopeless, but these are not God's desires for our lives. God knows us as we are at any moment of any day or any night. Moment by moment He is thinking of us with love. Scripture says He knows the thoughts He has for us, thoughts to give us a hope and a future and not to harm us.

So in spite of how we may feel, in spite of how circumstances may look, and in spite of what others may say, if God has such a great love for us can we not in turn just reach out and with arms and heart outstretched to Him let all of this goodness, this loving kindness and tender mercy just flood our very existence, every part of our life, good bad or otherwise? Just let Him come and show you the thoughts He has for especially you.

In faith, dear ones, believe in Him and believe in yourself. For the life we have received is a gift. Believe that what He’s done for others He will do for you. Believe that you have a Godly deposit on the inside of you of victory, wholeness, peace, and enough love to find healing for the hurts in life and share that love with all who will allow you to. If you have big hurts, He has big shoulders, you can lean on Him. If you have big problems, He’s got big solutions. There is nothing too difficult for our God.

Don’t let anyone rob you of this great hope or make you in any wise feel you can’t – you can’t accomplish that, you can’t have that, you can’t do that, you can’t be that, you can’t, you can’t, you can’t. God says you can and He loves you enough to bring you into that “large place” where dreams are birthed and battles are won. Don’t throw away your confidence in God, in yourself, or in these very things for your confidence has great recompense of reward (Hebrews 10:35-36 Cast not away therefore your confidence which hath great recompense of reward. 36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.) My Webster’s defines recompense as a reward or payment, something given or done to make up for loss or injury. And confidence, it means firm belief; trust; reliance; the fact of being or feeling certain; assurance. So in breaking down that one scripture and summing it all up, we can trust and be certain that God will in His way and His time send something to make up for our loss or injury. Our pain and suffering does not go unnoticed with God. So stand believing. Be patient in trials and tribulations knowing God will come and He will be right on time. His promises are sure. His Word is true.

Ask Jesus to come into your heart in a bigger way and be the Lord of your life. Ask Him to show you His way. Ask Him to show you His will for your life. Ask Him to reveal the gifts and callings He has placed in your life. Ask Him to settle you, to establish you, and ground yourself in His word and His love. Your life will never be the same, beloved, and believing in yourself, even if no one else does, will become a richly rewarding and transforming span of time that will leave you refreshed, revived, rejuvenated in the things of God. But above all, your life will become the sweetest of testimonies to those around you, some that perhaps did not even believe in you, for they will see your metamorphosis from being insecure, uncertain, perhaps feeling as others have that you can’t or it’s somehow not for you, to becoming a strong, confident child of God.

Yes this Godly confidence will bring you assurance that what God has promised, He will do. No matter where you are in life, no matter how far down you feel, how much you may have lost, how much emotional turmoil may keep you on the run each day, remember the scripture about confidence, the fact of BEING certain. That’s right. It’s not just a feeling. Tell yourself, “I am confident, I believe in myself, I believe in God, and God believes in me, Jesus lives big in me and my reward is coming soon". Be confident and rejoice!
